WHERE TO ENJOY THE CHINESE NEW YEAR IN SINGAPORE

YOTEL Singapore Mission Control decorated for Chinese New Year

As the Lunar New Year approaches each year, we must take time to welcome a new year full of good health and prosperity with our family and friends. Now, Singapore knows how to throw a party – and the New Year is no exception. Whether you’re feasting your eyes on the colourful lights of Chinatown or spending quality time with your loved ones at home, here’s how we think you should celebrate the Year of the Pig in 2019.

1. SEE THE LIGHTS ALONG HONG-BAO RIVER

The very first event to kick off the celebrations each year is held at The Float at Marina Bay. Running throughout February, the larger-than-life lanterns and floats can be seen along the Marina, celebrating Chinese tradition and legends such as the God of Fortune and – you guessed it – the Zodiac Pig who will be leading the procession! With handmade lanterns sizing up to 10m tall, they will be hard to miss.

2. VISIT THE CHINATOWN MARKET STALLS

As one of Singapore’s most iconic neighbourhoods, Chinatown comes to life during the Lunar New Year. Between 20 January and 6 March, watch Chinatown's streets light up and host the perfect combination of traditional and modern artistry. Dig into the authentic culinary offerings of Temple Street and Smith Street with your fellow foodies – Instagramming is encouraged!

3. TRY THE SHAKE-IT-UP PROSPERITY TOSS AT KOMYUNITI

Located on TEN at YOTEL Singapore, KOMYUNITI places you at the heart of Orchard Road where you can enjoy traditional dishes with a modern twist and perfect cocktails to match. The Shake-it-up Prosperity Toss is a guilt-free indulgence perfect for family and friends to enjoy together. Think delicious greens, paired with a KOMYUNITI exclusive Yuzu-based shaken dressing. Perfect for those who love natural citrus flavours!

4. HIT UP THE ICONIC TOURIST SPOTS

If you’re not a Singapore local, Chinese New Year is usually a great time to explore the iconic spots around the city without the usual hustle and bustle. Visit the suspended bridges at the Gardens by the Bay for a view that’s pretty spectacular – New Year or no New Year. Those visiting from out of town won’t have to worry about long queues to attractions during the holiday – make the most of it!

5. ENJOY THE ULTIMATE STAYCATION AT YOTEL SINGAPORE
